Cheryl Whaley

Cheryl Whaley serves as a Managing Partner for Paradox Strategies.

She has been a leader of innovation and change for 25 years as a senior corporate executive, consultant and board member.  Cheryl brings a unique perspective to transformation and leadership given her blend of experience in turn-arounds, ventures within corporate environments, consulting, and global P&L management.

Ms. Whaley most recently worked at AIG where she served in several roles including Global Head of Direct Marketing, Chief Operating Officer of Science, and Global Head of Commercial Underwriting Analytics.  As Global Head of Direct Marketing, Cheryl was accountable for over $2 Billion of premium and day-to-day management of AIG’s digital, direct, and partner relationships in over 20 countries. In this role, she implemented cutting edge machine learning predictive models and led the transition to an omni-channel strategy.

Previously, Ms. Whaley served as Senior Vice President, Capital Markets and Growth Ventures at Genworth Financial, a spin-off of General Electric, where she oversaw a $7 Billion portfolio and was responsible for structuring innovative capital markets solutions. In this role, she also served as the Chairman of Senior Financial, Genworth’s wholly owned subsidiary dedicated to senior oriented liquidity products, including reverse mortgages.

Before joining Genworth, Ms. Whaley spent a decade at General Electric in a variety of leadership positions.  She served as the Public Finance Business Leader and Senior Managing Director at Financial Guaranty Insurance Corporation (FGIC), where she oversaw a portfolio exceeding $170 Billion.  She also served as the Senior Vice President of Quality (Six Sigma) and Business Integration of GE Financial Assurance. Ms. Whaley was also the President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairperson of the Board of GE Capital Life Assurance Company of New York and American Mayflower Life Insurance Company of New York.  Cheryl also served as the Director of Strategic Planning at CNBC; in this role, she was responsible for launching CNBC.com. Cheryl’s previous work experience also includes positions held at CS First Boston, Northwest Airlines and Bain & Company.

Ms. Whaley’s Board service includes the Life Insurance Council of New York (LICONY), Institutional Life Services (“ILS”), the Jewish Community Project, Girl-Up, a United Nations Foundation campaign, Campus Compact and New Georges, an Obie-winning women’s theatre company.

Ms. Whaley graduated as a Durant Scholar, Magna Cum Laude from Wellesley College and holds an M.B.A. from Harvard University.
